About RunningZap
Compare running shoes with data, not hype.
What is RunningZap?
RunningZap is a running shoe comparison tool built for runners who want to make informed decisions. We cover 179+ shoes from 28 brands — from daily trainers to carbon-plated racers to trail shoes — and let you compare them side by side on specs, scores, and prices.
No ads. No affiliate bias. No sponsored rankings. Just data.
Why we built this
Finding the right running shoe shouldn't require reading 15 reviews across 10 websites. Existing comparison sites are cluttered, slow, and filled with affiliate-driven recommendations that prioritize commission over fit.
We wanted something simpler: a clean tool that shows you how shoes actually compare — on cushioning, durability, weight, value, and every other metric that matters — so you can decide for yourself.
Our Scoring Methodology
Every shoe on RunningZap receives scores across 9 categories:
- Overall — Weighted composite of all sub-scores
- Cushioning — Impact absorption, energy return, and ride comfort
- Stability — Medial support, heel lockdown, and lateral control
- Flexibility — Forefoot bend, toe-off ease, and natural stride feel
- Durability — Outsole lifespan, midsole resilience, and upper hold-up over miles
- Breathability — Airflow, moisture management, and heat dissipation
- Traction — Grip on wet and dry surfaces, trail confidence
- Weight — Actual weight vs category average (lighter = higher score)
- Value for Money — Performance relative to price point
Scores are on a 0–100 scale. They are aggregated from expert review sources including:
- Runner's World
- Believe in the Run
- Road Trail Run
- Doctors of Running
- Running Shoe Guru
- Other trusted running publications
We normalize each source's scoring system to our 0–100 scale and weight them equally. No single source dominates. When sources disagree, you see the average — which tends to be more reliable than any individual review.
How we compare shoes
Our comparison tool lets you pick 2 to 4 shoes and see them side by side. We show:
- Specs — Weight, drop, stack height, widths, sizes
- Scores — All 9 categories with visual bars
- Prices — MSRP and links to retailers in USD, EUR, and GBP
- Tech — Midsole technology, upper material, outsole compound
Every shoe also shows similar shoes — alternatives in the same category with comparable scores — so you can explore options you might not have considered.
Pricing & affiliate links
Prices on RunningZap reflect the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) at time of data collection. Actual prices may vary by retailer, region, and time.
We link to retailers so you can check current prices and availability. RunningZap is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon. If you purchase through our links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects our scores or rankings.
Data accuracy
We update shoe data regularly and cross-reference specs with manufacturer listings. If you spot an error or a missing shoe, please let us know at contact.running.zap@gmail.com.
You can also request a shoe to be added to our database.
The team
RunningZap is built and maintained by Pablo Criado, a runner and software engineer based in Spain. The site is designed to be fast, clean, and useful — because that's what we wanted as runners ourselves and couldn't find anywhere else.
